Place Value

Have you ever wondered what Room 14 gets up to during our guided maths time?

Sometimes we get a little bit confused and record our numbers the wrong way around so today some of our students worked on understanding what place value means.

Miss Glen wrote down some numbers in word form, then it was our job to write these numbers using digits. To check that we really understood what each number represents, we made the number using our place value cups.
Around the lip of each cup is the numbers 0-9. Each cup has numbers in different colours to remind us that the numbers are split into hundreds, tens and ones.

It was a fun and easy way to check for understanding!

You could give this a go at home too - all you need is a couple of felt pens and cups!
